Full of 96–98% sulfuric acid, this tank would hold about 45,000 lb of acid (about 15 lb per gallon). It is rated 2.2 SG, well above the roughly 1.84 specific gravity of concentrated acid, for extra wall thickness and margin.
This is a single wall tank. To capture leaks and acid fumes without a separate dike, consider a Polypropylene double wall tank.
Up to 75% acid, polypropylene, PVC and CPVC fittings are rated Excellent. Seal bulkheads with Viton® gaskets. No welded flanges in the sidewall for sulfuric acid. See fittings.
Pure sulfuric acid is solid below 51 °F, so concentrated acid stored outdoors may need an insulated tank and heat tracing.
